Visit www.venicehighcentennial.com for more info, how to sign up for the Skateboard Parade, Sponsorship Opportunities, and much much more.
The Game Booths will be run by students, teachers and sport clubs with ALL monies collected from this 4-day weekend event going towards scholarships for our VHS students. Take a look at some of what we have planned for you:
Friday, June 24 (Doors open at 6PM) ~ Join us on the Watson Football Field for a screening of GREASE ROCKIN’ RYDELL EDITION. How incredibly amazing it will be to see Grease like never before at the location where it was filmed – Venice High! Bring your family and friends and do what you’ve always wanted to do – sing-a-long! Come in your 50′s best; poodle skirts, saddle shoes, leather jacket, varsity sweater, cool shades, and enter our 50’s contest. For more info on our Friday night movie screening please contact Lorena Alvarado – GreaseVHS2011@yahoo.com.
Saturday, June 25 (Doors open at 7AM) ~ Wake up and join us for a Pancake Breakfast at 7AM. And, after the Opening Ceremony and Blessing, the Classic cars will be all lined up on the Watson Football Field. Come and see cars of the past and imagine the history all the cars have. Boy, if only cars could speak. Take a tour of the campus, reunite with your class or organization(s) you participated with while at Venice, view the unveiling of our Walk of Fame pavers, enjoy live bands that will perform all day and relax to the smooth sounds of the Crescendo Jazz Concert in the auditorium at 8pm. There will be food and merchandise vendors from 9am-6pm busy cooking and introducing you to their products. Wander around and please support them all.
Sunday, June 26 (Lineup – 9AM, Procession – 10AM) ~ Take part or cheer on the VHS Parade as Grand Marshall and Venice Alum Walter Cunningham (NASA Astronaut/APOLLO 7 Pilot) leads the way. Venice alum and local dignitaries will ride in the parade from Venice Beach to Venice High. Following these cars will be skateboarders who will attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for the largest skateboarding parade. The community of Venice should be able to break this record – we need at least 250 skaters.
Also, Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom has accepted the ‘weirdest request’ he has ever had to become an official certifier for this event. As the parade ends at VHS ~ the celebration will continue with an All Gondo Picnic from 11am – 6pm. Stay and relax with fellow alums, skateboarders, and Celeb guest for food and fun. Contact Carol Gaudiano Maher for more info regarding the parade – VHSskateboarder@yahoo.com.
Monday, June 27 ~ The 17th Annual Gondo Golf Classic will be held at Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita. Please contact Margo Oku at VHS for more info – 310.577.4200 ext 3. Look at all the fun this weekend will be! Join us with your family, friends, co-workers and help us spread the word. All of us at the Venice High Centennial Committee are very much looking forward to seeing you for this historical weekend event.
