Authorities were investigating a suspicious fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon at Santa Monica High School. The blaze damaged about 10 lockers in the boy's locker room in a school gymnasium after it was reported shortly before 2 p.m., the Santa Monica Police Department said. No injuries were reported, but the fire caused moderate smoke damage to the room.

Santa Monica detectives have identified David Michael Cardwell as the suspect involved in the Chase Bank robbery at 1333 4th St. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. Cardwell is still at large. The 47-year-old is described as African American, 5'10", 195 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.

Officials at the San Onofre nuclear power plant shut down one of the facility's two units Tuesday evening after a sensor detected a possible leak in a steam generator tube.
The potential leak was detected about 4:30 p.m., and the unit was completely shut down about an hour later, Southern California Edison said.
