Many on the Westside consider some of our amazing local Universities. One is LMU which is located in the Westchester community. At the edge of Loyola Marymount University’s bluff-top campus sits a new $63 million library with panoramic views from Los Angeles to Playa del Rey. Billed as the school’s “intellectual hub” – with the latest technology and group study rooms that can be reserved via the Internet – the library has won LMU bragging rights since opening its sleek library last August., But other buildings on the scenic 142-acre campus – many of which were constructed from the 1950s to 1970s – don’t compare. And that’s the reason for the private Catholic school’s 20-year master plan, officials say – to provide a blueprint for future development projects that will help LMU attract and retain top faculty and students. Humanitarian and acclaimed co-author of “Three Cups of Tea” Greg Mortensen will be speaking at LMU’s Gersten Pavilion on Tuesday February 2nd at 7:15pm. Mortensen’s latest book, “Stones Into Schools” is about his work in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He is the co-founder of the nonprofit Central Asia Institute and founder of the nonprofit Pennies for Peace. “Three Cups of Tea” is mandatory reading for all military leaders and diplomatic staff serving in Afghanistan.
