Mar Vista Considers Proposal for Urban Beekeeping Pilot Project

The Mar Vista Community Council is holding a meeting on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 6:30 PM at Windward School's Hunter Conference Room, located at 11350 Palms Boulevard, Los Angeles. The event is a joint committee meeting between the Council's Outreach, Green, and Planning and Land Use Management committees.
Officials will consider a motion to adopt Mar Vista’s Beekeeping Feasibility Study to allow a Pilot Beekeeping Program on a portion of Mar Vista’s single-family residential districts. Discussion of Feasibility Study findings and recommendations include maximum number and placement of beehives, water supply regulations, and LA County registration; and will include opportunities for public comment.

Taking a stand for social- as well as environmental-justice, Tuesday night the Mar Vista Community Council (MVCC) voted in favor of a resolution supporting Long Beach State Senator Alan Lowenthal’s SB-568 – a bill recently approved by the Senate – which initiates a state-wide ban on food containers made from expanded polystyrene (EPS), more commonly known by the Dow Chemical brand-name, Styrofoam™.
