Just a little more than a year after opening on Main Street Santa Monica, Spice Station has closed its doors, survived by its store in Silver Lake and an emerging business in Montreal. The shutter is only temporary, however, so that Spice Station can relocate to Santa Monica Place.

The Los Angeles Business Council’s Best Retail Project Award was recently bestowed upon Venice's Jerde Partnership for the visually striking construction of Santa Monica Place, which will celebrate its one-year anniversary next month. Selena Gomez is in the hospital, and her planned performance at Santa Monica Place has been canceled. Selena was hospitalized Thursday following the taping of an appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" and is undergoing "routine tests" at a Los Angeles hospital. Her three-song set at Santa Monica Place was supposed to mark the beginning of a 10-stop tour of malls across the U.S. UPDATE: the Santa Monica Place concert has been rescheduled to Monday.

The mall’s third-level Market features cured meats, cheeses, freshly baked breads and seasonal produce. Aimed at high-end Westside shoppers since it reopened last summer, Santa Monica Place is now trying to appeal to local foodies with the Market, a gourmet bazaar in the mall.
