Solar Renewable sources in the U.S. are starting to produce enough energy to rival oil output, according to the federal Energy Information Administration. Biomass and biofuels along with geothermal, solar, water and wind-power generation were responsible for nearly 12% of the country’s energy production during the first quarter of the year. That’s nearly 6% more than nuclear’s output and 77% of the amount coming from domestic crude oil, the agency said.

LADWP will host a public workshop on two of its local, customer-focused solar programs on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the LADWP headquarters building in Downtown Los Angeles. The workshop will be divided in two parts: the Solar Incentive Program re-launch and the proposed design of a Local Renewable Energy Program, also known as Feed-in-Tariff.
“Major Epidemic Levels” of Solar Contagion Expected

A new study on the neighborhood effect of solar power found that "solar is contagious." The report cites a 1% decrease in the time between individual solar panel installations in a single ZIP code for each 1% increase in solar panel installations. While the current strain of solar is not as virulent as future strains, "major epidemic levels of contagion" are expected as solar panel prices continue to fall sharply.

LADWP Suspends Solar Incentive Program

LADWP announced it is temporarily suspending its solar rebate program due to a record pace of solar installations that has exhausted DWP's rebate budget. Officials have placed a temporary hold on accepting new applications solar rebates for a minimum of 90 days.
