A Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Thursday declined to grant an emergency request to block UCLA's sale of its Hannah Carter Japanese Garden in Bel-Air. But opponents of the sale say they plan to continue to press to have their case resolved by a court after a full hearing.

A Los Angeles man suspected in a burglary in a residence hall on the UCLA campus in Westwood is now in custody. Timothy Bell, 41, was arrested just after midnight on Thursday when a UCLA community service officer observed him in a stairwell in another residence hall and called the UC Police Department, according to campus police. He is suspected in the May 6 theft of $20 from a room in a campus residence hall.

There have been more than 20 burglaries and attempted burglaries since September at university apartments on Sepulveda and Sawtelle boulevards and Rose and Keystone avenues, in a set of graduate student apartment complexes called University Apartments South, according to a recent report released by the UCPD.
