Los Angeles to Host Forum on Climate Change

The City of Los Angeles presents its second annual Forum on Climate Change on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 9am – 2pm at the Japanese American National Museum located at 369 East 1st Street. Experts will weigh in on science, collaboration, policy, and case studies on the City’s efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. City Council staff members, neighborhood councils, educators and all interested stakeholders are invited to participate.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed an ordinance giving the Department of Water and Power authority to sign contracts to purchase solar power from local providers to supply electricity to the rest of the city. The department plans to sign up to 20-year contracts with a mix of residential and commercial solar power providers as part of a pilot project that will generate 10 megawatts of electricity.

Traffic on Lincoln Boulevard, between Marina Del Rey and LAX has grown to the point that on some days, travelers must allow an extra hour to get to and from the airport. Councilman Bill Rosendahl has announced the approval of a new Canoe Canal, which will be built alongside Lincoln Boulevard; adjacent to the Bike Lane. The new "Canoe Lane" will begin at Fiji Way in the Marina, and traverse through the Ballona Wetlands, up and down the Westchester Bluffs, and end at Terminal One at LAX. April 1, 2012.

The Argonaut newspaper announced Thursday that it has been sold to Southland Publishing, Inc. The local weekly newspaper claims an audited print circulation of 30,000. Launched in 1971 as the Marina del Rey Argonaut, the paper expanded its coverage to include Playa del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica, Westchester, Los Angeles International Airport, as well as the adjacent neighborhoods of Playa Vista and Mar Vista.
