Hollywood Reacts To Wes Craven’s Death

Hollywood reacts to the passing of horror master Wes Craven in this episode Clevver Newsfeed. Hollywood has lost another legendary director as Wes Craven past away in his home at the age of 76 surrounded by friends and family. Craven, one of the most famous horror directors ever, began his filmmaking career in 1972 with The Last House on the Left. He wrote, directed, and edited the film. The Hills Have Eyes, Swamp Thing and The Last House on the Left followed. He then created Freddy Krueger in s A Nightmare on Elm Street. Craven is also the director of the genre-bending Scream films which launched in 1996. Although he is best known for his horror films, Craven explored other genres, including the 1999 musical Drama, Music of the Heart. This earned Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination as Best Actress. He was most recently responsible for 2011’s Scream 4 as well as acting in the role of executive producer on MTV Scream. MTV stated that Wes Craven was an extraordinary visionary whose sense of humor and fearlessness has been embraced by generations of MTV viewers. We were honored to have had the opportunity to work with him and are proud to continue his legacy with Scream. We send our deepest condolences to his family and close friends.” James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy director, tweeted that he was “heartbroken” about the passing of Wes Craven. He was an amazing inspiration as a director and, even more, a very kind person.” Kevin Smith, who worked alongside Craven on Scream 3 and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, tweeted: “Fare well horror-Gretzky WES CAVEN. Talented, good man.” Bruce Campbell posted this tribute pic from The Evil Dead franchise that featured Freddie’s glove in the background. Scott Foley, the star of Scream 3, also expressed gratitude. Sket Ulrich, the original Scream star, tweeted, “So sorry to hear about Wes. He was an amazing man, both on and off set. I owe so many things to his talents. Many …” Horror director legend John Carpenter will miss him deeply. He tweeted, “Devastated to learn the news. Wes was a good friend, fine director, and a great man. It was a huge loss. It’s too soon,” Saw and The Conjuring director James Wan replied, “Can’t believe it.” Wes Craven’s passing has caused deep sadness and we offer our sincere condolences. Truly one my greatest inspirations.” Wes Craven was an exceptional writer, director, and producer whose contributions to film and especially horror are immeasurable.
