Poland is a NATO member and has already accepted over 2 million Ukrainian refugees. Biden will be accompanied by Rafal Trzaskowski (Warsaw Mayor), to meet with refugees on Saturday to discuss humanitarian relief efforts.
According to Jake Sullivan, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Biden will give an address at Warsaw’s Royal Castle on Saturday about the “stakes that this moment.”
Friday’s visit to Poland saw Biden praise Poland’s response for the refugee crisis. He also met with Polish humanitarian workers as well as American troops at the border with Ukraine.
“You are in the midst of a fight between democracies and oligarchs,” Biden said as he met in Rzeszow with members of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, which is supporting thousands of other NATO troops in eastern flank countries that include Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria and Romania.
